Native Roots Radio interview with Director Keri Pickett
Robert Pilot invited me to his show AWAKE on Native Roots Radio and we spoke about my film First Daughter and the Black Snake and Winona LaDuke’s opposition to Sandpiper and Line 3 pipelines. Arriving, I was met with big hugs by the hosts Bobby Pilot and his wife Wendy who were joined by their elder Curtis West and co-host Wicapi Otto. Wacipi live streams the show on her facebook page and her audience really came to the rescue as Robert asked me about my first film ‘The Fabulous Ice Age’, but I failed to say the title so her followers asked the question – what is the name of the film? ha! So we covered my career and issues related to the documentary film.
The radio spot was just ten minutes long but all the other stories of the day seemed to overlap with issues mentioned in the film as Wendy spoke about how agriculture is degrading the quality of the water in MN. She suggests a ‘meatless Monday’ to help as the beef industry has an impact on climate change.
Robert asked me to return the following week after we both saw the film “Neither Wolf Nor Dog”. We both really liked the film and it reminded me of my youth when I first traveled to Pine Ridge Reservation to to do a follow up as my film was getting ready to play the reservations where so many of the scenes in the film took place. It was so great to get to know these interested and interesting people. In my second visit to the station Wicapi was live streaming information on Line 3 and she is very well informed and the environmental group MN350 was sharing her live stream.
