The 5/3/2017 Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival (MSPIFF) selects First Daughter and the Black Snake in it’s Best of Fest screening.
Even after three weeks of all my screenings were sold out the final screening was special because the Dakota 38 riders were in the house and they came up to greet the audience and answer questions. The MSPIFF festival has had so many sold-out screenings of First Daughter and the Black Snake I knew that over a thousand people had seen the film but without advertising people didn’t know about the Best-of-Fest screening. Thanks to social media – many attended the special “Best-of-Fest” screening including a group of youth who saw themselves in the scene filmed at the Tar Sands Resistance March of 2015.
Annie Humphrey helped make the evening very special by singing a song for the audience. Also the Dakota 38 riders were in town to attend events at Fort Snelling and so there were many horse riders in the room. Seth Eastman has been riding in Winona LaDuke’s Honor the Earth sponsored spiritual horse ride the past two years and he attended the screening and answered questions during the Q&A.
